Community Participation Assistant

We are a North Vancouver family looking for a fun, energetic, sports-oriented support person to assist
our son to participate in active recreation and community activities. Our son is 29 and has Down
syndrome; he is very fun-loving and likes to be active.
JOB DESCRIPTION
There are two positions available for 1, 2, 3 or 4 days a week each from Monday to Friday. Ideally, we
will hire for two positions to replace our current main support worker who works 4 days per week and
augment our current one day per week support worker, while building a team that can provide
occasional relief hours for fellow team members. The hours are 10 to 5 and the pay is $22 per hour plus
mileage.
You will assist our son to participate in active recreation and community involvement. Ability to
ski or snowboard and rollerblade preferred. Must be able to swim and skate. Other aspects of the job
include teaching life skills and maintaining library of photos for iPad photo communication apps.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Comfortable with athletics and able to support our son to improve skills and fitness. Activities include
swimming, skating, rollerblading, skiing, biking and gym and he attends yoga and drama classes.
• Strong social role model.
• Experienced or interested in gaining experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
• Fully licensed and have your own car (mileage will be paid).
Impeccable character references. Clear criminal record search, driver’s abstract and references are
