Every 3 years since 2004, NSDRC hosts surveyors from CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) to evaluate how well we meet international standards for quality. The survey tells us what we are doing well and ways we might improve.
The NSDRC has been accredited 5 times – 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016. Each accreditation period is for 3 years. Our current accreditation is valid through December 31, 2019.
CARF International is an independent, not-for-profit family of organizations (including CARF, CARF Canada, and CARF-CCAC) that provides accreditation in the field of human services.
Accreditation is a peer review process done by an outside accrediting body such as CARF. Two or three CARF surveyors conduct an internal audit over two to three days to check an agency’s compliance with a set of standards in various areas – including business practices, health and safety, individualized service planning and various programs. The programs at the NSDRC that are currently accredited are the Community Based Services Program, the Infant Development Program and the Supported Living Program.
The final accreditation survey report will be available to anyone who is interested in receiving a copy and will also be posted on our website. Thank you to everyone who was involved in assuring the success of this important project. We greatly appreciate the demonstrated determination and commitment to ongoing quality assurance at the NSDRC.
