Residential Care Workers

The Supported Living Program is currently seeking qualified/experienced Residential Care Workers to support individuals with disabilities in their homes and in the community. Some of the job duties would be organizing activities (in and out of the home), personal care, cleaning, administering medications, preparing meals and maintaining a homey environment.

Purpose:

To empower and support people with disabilities as valued, participating citizens in inclusive communities.

Qualifications:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • experience and/or knowledge of issues affecting people with disabilities
  • commitment to values and philosophy of the NSDRC
  • commitment to team building principles
  • well developed communication skills
  • effective written and oral skills
  • flexibility, reliability, punctuality, enthusiasm, motivation
  • ability to deal with stress and change
  • problem solving abilities
  • ability to work independently
  • effective time management
  • ability to receive and respond to feedback

Education/Experience:

  • High School certificate (minimum) or equivalent
  • one year experience providing support to people with disabilities

OR

  • a relevant combination of education and/or experience, combined with general suitability

Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Search, completed within five (5) business days
  • Current Emergency Level 1st Aid, and CPR Level A Certificate or equivalent
  • Negative TB Test, or a clear chest x-ray
  • Medical doctor’s note of good health
  • Hepatitis B tests and shots within three (3) months, if required
  • Restricted Class 4
  • Non Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention

CBS Support Workers

The The Community Based Services department is hiring on a ongoing basis. We are seeking qualified/experienced one-to-one Community Support Workers to support children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities. You will be assisting individuals to achieve individualized goals by supporting them to access community activities, resources, and teaching life skills.

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Fulltime, Shift, Overtime, Weekend, Day, Night, Evening

Salary: $8 hourly, for 40 hours per week minimum

Skill Requirements

Education: Completion of High School, Completion of RCA vocational training (or comparable)

Specific Skills: Prepare, cook and serve meals, Launder clothing and household linens, Mend clothing and linens, Perform light housekeeping and cleaning, Assume full responsibility for household (in absence of householder), Provide personal care, Provide companionship, Garden, Assist clients in water (i.e. pool), Administer bedside and personal care, Feed or assist in feeding, Administer medications, Collect specimens, Aid clients with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene
